POND CLINIC:

The PCSWCD hosted a pond clinic on August 26, 2023 from 9 AM to 11 AM. It was held at the Kickapoo Sportsman Club just outside of Kickapoo.  About 40 people came to listen to Rob Hilsabeck give us his knowledge about pond plants, and animals, fish stocking and other questions.  It was a warm day, and with the help of one of the attendees, Rob shocked the pond, we then went and sat under the pavilion to a question and answer session. It was a very informative day. Most people left before the rain hit and cooled off.  Thank you Rob for taking time out of your day to lead this clinic.

Well Sealing Event

On August 11 the Peoria County Farm Bureau and the Peoria County SWCD along with the Peoria County Health Department hosted a well sealing event at the Peoria County Farm Bureau Park. There were around 40 people in attendance. Speakers included, Josh Joseph from Peoria County SWCD, Ryan McConnell from the Health Department, Michael Dryden, who performed the well sealing along with Troy Forney.  Pea sized gravel was used to fill part of the well along with Bentonite. Pictures show how the process was handled.

Green Communities Tree Program

This year the Peoria County University of Illinois Extension 4-H and the Peoria County SWCD along with the Peoria Park District planted 25 oak trees at Charter Oak Park. The Park District is trying to create an oak savannah area in the park. This is the 4th year that Peoria County has participated in this program. We are one of 10 Counties throughout the state of Illinois to participate all 4 years. Peoria County Volunteers have planted 100 Oak trees in the past 4 years.

Peoria County SWCD was happy to collaborate with the Peoria County University of Illinois Extension 4-H Program to help plant a savannah of oak trees at Sommer Park. It was exciting to see the 3 entities come together to help the community. We look forward to watching these trees grow and be a part of people's lives for years to come.
